What I do
I build and lead the teams that keep platforms running — cloud infrastructure, DevOps, IT and information security.
Most of the work is making systems legible: instrumenting them, automating whatever nobody should have to do twice, and getting them boring enough that nobody has to think about them. Thirteen years in, I still think the unglamorous parts of reliability are the interesting ones.
Most recently that meant replacing a commercial APM and a CloudWatch log bill with a self-hosted OpenTelemetry and Grafana stack — then writing down what it actually cost.

All posts →The Observability Migration — a ten-part account of moving logs, metrics and traces onto a stack we run ourselves.
- Lessons LearnedTen sessions in: what I would do the same, what I would do differently, and whether it was worth it.
- The Cost BreakdownWhat the self-hosted stack costs per month, line by line, against the bill it replaced.
- Migrating MonitorsPorting hundreds of alerts into a new query language, and the remote-write we forgot to move.
- GitOps Deployment ModelTerraform modules, configuration in Git, automated sync - running an observability stack you can rebuild from scratch.
- OTel InstrumentationWiring the OpenTelemetry SDK into real services: resource attributes, batch processors, and the settings that actually matter.
